R.J. Mundy had up till 1945 had a quit war. but this all changed on entering the South China Sea. My father would not talk about it much.

But my Mother said he came home a changed man. He had a bible given to him by the ships chaplain, after a very bad incident.

Due to a problem obtaining his Pacific Star which he managed to get after 44 years, then only due to the commander of the Belfast being a fellow radio ham he meet in the 1980s on a HMS Belfast open day.

It turns out due to the secret nature of its work in 1945/6 the MOD would not release its position in those two years, but the commander had kept his log book and was able to convince the MOD that a medal was due to my father.

All my father would say is that the ship first went to Lyllete and then ran up to Hong Kong, Shanghi Whan poo river area to bring out certain people. ( No Names have been passed on) But we do have a few photo’s left of some prisoners being taken in China.

I have seen news paper articles that the Belfast was close to Japan on a number off occasion’s - I have seen an article in the Telegraph which mentions a visit by Desmond Albrow age 21 on a visit to Hiroshima in early 1946 by  HMS Belfast which tied up at the port of KURE
